8A – Solving The Problem
So my opportunity/product relates to the common issue of no parking on or near campus for students who live off-campus that attend the University of Florida. Most students who live off-campus have the everyday hasle of commuting on the bus system in conditions of rain or below freezing temperatures in so-called the city of Rainesville. As a result, students must leave hours earlier from their home in order to get to their class on time or to not be late for their job after class when leaving. I would like for the University of Florida to offer or to build more garages with just open grass fields for students who live off-campus to park at, either for a fee/premium or for FREE! However, with this I would assume that students would have to pay for this parking opportunity, which most students would opt for due to the time and money it would save them.
- Overall, I think the idea of offering decals for students who live off-campus to park closer to their classrooms would make UF more money and provide safer and shorter commutes for its students. The university has an opportunity to make additional money from its students by doing the simple task of reserving more land for parking spots or by building garages. This will allow most students a more convenient life as a studious person who has a busy work/school schedule for years to come.
- A possible secondary product would be apartments for off-campus students at a cheaper price that are closer to the campus and that would still have to ride the bus, but a shorter distance that would be most convenient. Off-campus students should ultimately have the luxury of what most on-campus students experience everyday with scooters and plenty of parking lots that are right next to their classrooms.
I think that this is a really good solution to the opportunity posed. I automatically think of how they just added a parking lot to Norman field, yet it was simply just for faculty when students still spend an abnormally long time to find parking and ultimately having to spend more time to try and find parking than riding the bus, which is frustrating. I also like that you added it does not have to be on UF campus but if it is at least a little closer it would benefit both parties.
ReplyDeleteHey Matthew,
ReplyDeleteI believe decals for off campus students would be a very successful idea. Since UF is such a versatile campus with online, hybrid, on campus, and off campus students, decals would considered "worth it" to many students. I was just on UF campus to go to the bookstore and it took me nearly 20 minutes to find a spot that I had to pay for. Super inconvenient.
Sincerely,
Ayla
Hey Matthew,
ReplyDeleteI think your idea is extremely popular and people around campus who live off-site would really appreciate better parking locations than the commuter lots for students driving to class. It's very inconvenient to live off campus and have to walk long distances to classes instead of building better parking or offering different decals to those students. Nice work.
Hi Matthew,
ReplyDeleteI think this idea could possibly be successful. I know that many students, including myself, would support this idea. I live off campus although, it is close by my classes it would still be more convenient to be able to park closer to the buildings. The only issue that would be a potential set back is that there is not much open-grass land or land to build parking garages around UF. Therefore, I think that is the reason why there is such an issue with the parking at UF. On the other hand, there is a lot of building construction around campus constantly so this idea could still be successful.
